Prithvinath Temple & Jhali dham, Pachran – Gonda

It was told by the priest of the temple that this temple is around 6500 old. There was a devil (rakhshas) called VAKASUR in this region. He was supplied with one bull and one human being everyday for food by the people. The bull was usually arranged by the king of this region and human being volunteered themselves for the same. it is said that Pandavas came to this place during their vanvaas and stayed here for sometime.

One day Mata Kunti was passing through this place, when she found that one lady was crying with tears in her eyes. She inquired the reason for the same. Lady told that she has the only one son and same is going to be offered to Vakasur for the food. When Kunti knew about it, she told don’t worry, since you have only one son and i have five, i will send one of my son in place of your son.

When she returned back and told the same to his sons, Bhima agreed to go. When Bhima reached the place he challanged Vakasur and consequently there was a fierce fight between the Vakasur and Bhima. T the end Bhima killed vakasur and people in this region started living with peace and prosperity.

But this Ssur was Brahmin Asur, thus the Bhima was blamed for the Brahm-Hatya. To repent the same he did penance here and established the largest Shivling of the world at this place. The temple is preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. It is located around 40 KM from Gonda.

Its our’s fortune that u r st my native place, but unfortunately our’s MP and MLA’S dont take initiative to develop this place,
If this temple would be in other places then no doubt it would be more developed.
