Visit to Daman

It was a God sent opportunity to visit Daman. Daman was a Portugues settlement and remained even under the control of Portugal till late when it was annexed by India as a Union Territory. Daman has few beaches but beach sand is now of balcony floor due to the pollution brought in by the Daman Ganga river to sea while passing through Vapi industrial Area. The beaches are dotted with numerous resorts where people from neighbouring state rush to during the weekend for drinks and food as Gujarat is a dry state.

The churches inside the old fort dates back to 1906 when Portuguese initially came to Daman and started building them. The one church is unique in the sense with explicit wood carvings showing the life of lady Mary. Initially all these wood carvings were covered with golden leaf work.
